The speed limit coming into Manchester, VT is a mere 30 mph. You have to take it slow. Now as you gaze at my photo, you’ll see the splash of color on the leaves as Autumn draws near. Please tell me why time can’t take a deep breath and slow down more like the deathly slow speed limit.
And talk about time…I recently took my son to an orthopedic doctor for a shoulder injury, and the receptionist began to tell me how her coworker is counting down for Christmas Day! I can’t remember how many days she said were left until jolly St. Nick visits us again. I conveniently neglected to store it into any of the realistic compartments of my brain.
The fact of the matter is: Time in our lives seems to zoom by faster than the space shuttle enters space, and there’s nothing we can do about it.
So how are we expected to live? In fear at each new wrinkle that attacks our face before we have the chance to gaze in the mirror? In fear that each wrinkle is indicative of goals that we’ve set but haven’t met yet?
I’ll answer that with an emphatic NO! We are meant to live in great hope, joy, and expectation. That being said, let me ask you this: What wonderful thing are you looking forward to that hasn’t happened yet? What steps are you taking to make your life more meaningful? Life doesn’t just happen on its own. If you want a rose garden, you need to till it. If you want things to happen, you need to take your own steps to make a change. You can do it! Hopefully your life doesn’t happen on its own but with family, friends, and those you love.
Take a deep breath. Say a prayer. And let the bread crumbs of life fall where they may. Be happy! Believe in yourself and your dreams. And for crying out loud, step on the brake and slow down once in a while! I promise you, you’ll be glad you did!
